Cross Country

On the 17th of October 2011,four pupils from our class went to a race in Portmarnock. The race was 1000 metres long and there were lots of hills that we had run up and down. There were eighty people in each race. There were lots of different age groups from under 9s to under 13s but we were in under 12s.
The weather was horrible on the day. It was lashing rain and very windy all day but luckily our race ended just before it got even worse but the older group still had to run in the lashing rain! The children who ran in the race were Mairtin, Kate H, Georgia and Stephen. We all got great results and we were very happy with them. Mairtin came 2nd and he won a gold medal and a plaque, Kate H came 3rd and she won a plaque and a gold medal, Georgia came 20th and she won a gold medal and Stephen came 73rd and he won a gold medal. We went to an assembly in the hall to receive our medals and plaques. We achieved these results because Miss Ryan and Caroline gave up their lunch every day for two months so they could train us.On the 6th of October, 5 children from our class went to Santry Park for another race. The race was also 1000 metres long and we all achieved great results again and all received medals for the race. At the assembly Miss Ryan and Mr Creaner gave out goodies to all the children who ran in the race. We are all hoping to get onto the sprints team in the summer.
